Abstract English

This study examines how inherited values in classical tales, which have entrenched stereotypes in young readers’ consciousness, are critically interrogated. It traces the metanarrative mechanisms operating in the text and analyzes their role in dismantling and reconstructing such images. The corpus consists of Arwa Dawood Khamees’s duology, A Tea Party at Cinderella’s Palace (2015) and A Cup of Coffee on Treasure Island (2019). Adopting a narratological approach, the study uses metanarrative analysis to examine character models and the movement from dependence on external image toward choice and self-awareness. The findings show that the first part questions image, beauty, and the myth of the savior, whereas the second explores the role of experience and knowledge in shaping the self and recovering identity. The study concludes that metanarrative discourse activates characters and engages young readers in meaning-making through active questioning.

الملخص العربي

يهدف هذا البحث إلى الكشف عن كيفية مساءلة القيم الموروثة في الحكايات الكلاسيكية التي رسّّخت صوراًً نمطية في وعي الناشئة. ويتحقق هذا الهدف إجرائياًً برصد الآليات الميتاسردية في النص، وتحليل دورها في تقويض تلك الصور وإعادة إنتاجها. ويتخذ البحث من ثنائية أروى داود خميّّس: حفلة شاي في قصر سندريلا (2015) وكوب قهوة في جزيرة الكنز (2019) مدونة تطبيقية. واعتمدت الدرا سة المنهج السردي متخذةًً من التحليل الميتاسردي أداة إجرائية في قراءة النصوص، وتحليل نماذج الشخصيات للكشف عن آليات تشكّّل الهويّّة، ومسارات الانتقال من الاتكالية والصورة الخارجية إلى الاختيار والوعي بالذات، وقد أظهرت النتائج أن الخطاب السردي ركّّز في الجزء الأول من الثنائية على مساءلة الصورة والجمال ووهم المخلّّص، بينما اتجه في الجزء الثاني إلى ا ستكشاف دور التجربة والخبرة في تشكّّل الذات الإنسانية، وا ستعادة الهويّّة. وخلص البحث إلى فاعلية توظيف الخطاب الميتاسردي في تنشيط الشخصيات وإشراك المتلقّّي اليافع في إنتاج المعنى.
