Manuscripts must follow the APA 7th edition referencing style in both in-text citations and the reference list. Submissions not conforming will not be accepted.

  • Arabic manuscripts/submissions should be formatted in Traditional Arabic font (16 pt), single-column layout, with double line spacing, and justified margins on both sides.
  • English Manuscripts/ submissions should be formatted in Times New Roman font (12 pt), single-column layout, and double line spacing, with justified margins on both sides.
  • Use bold face, italics, subscripts, and superscripts where appropriate.
  • All manuscript pages must be numbered and include continuous line numbering.
  • Arabic manuscripts must use Eastern Arabic numerals (١، ٢، ٣ …) in all places, including page numbers, headings, subheadings, tables, figures, equations, appendices, and any in-text references.
  • English manuscripts must use Western numerals (1, 2, 3 …) in all places, including page numbers, headings, subheadings, tables, figures, equations, appendices, and any in-text references.
  • Use the decimal system of headings with no more than three levels.
    • For Arabic manuscripts: headings and subheadings should follow Eastern Arabic numerals (e.g., ١.، ٢.، ٢.١، ٢.١.١).
    • For English manuscripts: headings and subheadings should follow Western numerals (e.g., 1., 2., 2.1, 2.1.1).

  • Authors are strongly advised to use the spell-check and grammar-check functions of their word processing software to minimize language errors.
  • The percentage of documented quotations (whether verbatim or paraphrased) must not exceed 25% of the manuscript. This includes both the author’s previous work and that of others. Any manuscript exceeding this percentage will be returned, based on results from iThenticate. Qur’anic verses, Prophetic traditions (Hadith), and poetic citations are excluded.
  • In Arabic manuscripts only, Arabic references must first be presented in their original Arabic script then presented transliterated into Roman script and merged with foreign references (if any), arranged alphabetically. References should be formatted in Times New Roman, size 12 (regular).

Online Submission

Manuscripts should be submitted online by one of the authors through the journal’s submission system on Elsevier Editorial Manager (EM), following the on-screen instructions. Submissions made by anyone other than one of the listed authors will not be accepted. The submitting author assumes full responsibility for the manuscript during submission and throughout the peer-review process.

Initial evaluation

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial evaluation by the Editorial Office to ensure that they are properly prepared and comply with the journal’s ethical policies. As part of this process, all manuscripts are screened for potential plagiarism using iThenticate software. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal’s ethics policy or quality standards will be rejected before peer review, and incomplete manuscripts or those not prepared in the advised style will be returned to the authors without scientific review. After these checks, the Editorial Office consults the Editor-in-Chief to determine whether the manuscript fits the scope of the journal and whether it is scientifically sound. Manuscripts with insufficient priority for publication will be rejected promptly. Authors are required to submit manuscripts in good Arabic or English, and the Editor reserves the right to reject a manuscript on the grounds of insufficient language quality. All rejection decisions at this stage will be verified by the Editor-in-Chief.

Submission Declaration and Verification

Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract, a published lecture, or an academic thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, including electronically, without the written consent of the copyright holder.

To verify originality, all manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Arabic Sciences and Humanities (JASH) are screened using Crossref Similarity Check powered by iThenticate to identify any plagiarized content.

Article structure

Manuscripts (in Arabic or English) must generally be organized in the following order, where applicable. This structure is primarily required for original research articles. For other types of contributions, authors may adapt the structure to fit the nature of their work, provided that the manuscript remains clear, coherent, and in line with APA 7th edition style.

  1. Title Page (Required) (Separate file)
  2. Abstract and Keywords
  3. Introduction
  4. Methodology
  5. Results
  6. Discussion

Must follow APA 7th edition style. Tables and figures should be embedded in the manuscript at the appropriate place in the text (not placed at the end).

Each table and figure must include a clear title, number, and caption in accordance with APA 7th edition style.

Title page (Required) (Separate file)

The title page must be prepared in the same language as the manuscript (Arabic for Arabic manuscripts, English for English manuscripts) and should include the following elements:

  • Title
    • The title must be provided in both Arabic and English, regardless of the language of the manuscript.
    • The title should be brief, concise, and descriptive, accurately reflecting the main focus of the paper.
    • Avoid abbreviations, jargon, or overly technical terms in the title.
  • Authors and Affiliations
    • Provide the full names of all authors: given names, middle initials, and family names.
    • Identify the corresponding author with an asterisk (*).
    • Provide the email address of the corresponding author.
    • List author names centered beneath the title.
    • Affiliations must include: department, faculty/college, university, city, and country.
  • Short Running Title
A short running title (no more than 80 characters, including spaces) must be provided in the language of the manuscript.

Note: If the manuscript is derived from a master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation, this must be indicated in a footnote on the title page (see Thesis/Dissertation Extraction policy for details).

Abstract

An abstract must be provided in both English and Arabic, regardless of the language of the manuscript. The abstract must be self-contained, citation-free, and should not exceed 250 words. It should provide a concise overview of the study, briefly describing the purpose of the research (the aim and rationale), the methods used (how the investigation was conducted), the results (the most significant findings), and the conclusions (the key implications or takeaways). Nonstandard or uncommon abbreviations should be defined at first mention within the abstract.

Keywords

Authors must provide 5 to 7 keyword in both English and Arabic, separated by semicolons (;). Keywords should accurately reflect the main themes of the manuscript to facilitate indexing and retrieval.

Introduction

The Introduction should be concise and written without subheadings. Authors must clearly establish the significance, originality, and rationale of the study. Background information should be limited to material directly relevant to the research question or scholarly contribution, avoiding unnecessary detail or extended literature reviews.

Literature Review

The Literature Review should provide a critical overview of relevant and up-to-date scholarship directly related to the study. It should identify gaps in the literature, highlight areas of debate, and situate the current research within the broader academic context. Authors are expected to synthesize sources rather than merely summarize them, demonstrating how their study builds upon, diverges from, or contributes to existing knowledge. The review must be well-organized and balanced, ensuring comprehensive coverage while avoiding excessive or tangential references.

Methodology

The Methodology section should provide sufficient detail to allow the study to be replicated or critically evaluated. Authors are expected to describe the research design, data sources, sampling or selection procedures, instruments or tools used, and the methods of data collection and analysis. Where applicable, subsections may be used to organize multiple methods.

If established methods are employed, they should be cited appropriately, and only modifications or adaptations should be described in detail. Authors must ensure clarity and precision to guarantee reproducibility and transparency of the research process.

For quantitative studies, statistical procedures should be specified, including the type of tests applied and the significance threshold used (e.g., p < 0.05). For qualitative or mixed-methods research, authors should clearly explain the analytical framework (e.g., thematic analysis, discourse analysis, grounded theory) and justify its appropriateness for the study.

The methodology should be concise but sufficiently comprehensive to allow readers to understand, evaluate, and replicate the research.

Results

The Results section should present the research findings clearly, concisely, and in a logical sequence. Data may be supported by tables and figures, but these should only be included when they add essential value to the interpretation of the study. Authors should avoid repeating the same information in both the text and tables/figures. Results must be presented objectively, without interpretation or commentary.

Discussion

The Discussion section should provide a critical interpretation of the findings in relation to the study’s objectives and relevant literature. Authors should highlight the significance of the results, explain their implications, acknowledge limitations, and situate the findings within the broader scholarly context. Suggestions for future research may be included where they arise from the study’s limitations or unresolved questions.

Conclusion

The Conclusion should offer a concise summary of the key outcomes of the study. Authors should emphasize how the findings address the study’s objectives, underline their scholarly significance, and highlight the broader contributions or implications of the work. Where appropriate, the conclusion may also propose new perspectives, theoretical insights, or recommendations for practice and future research. Repetition of detailed results should be avoided.

Acknowledgment(s) (recommended) (Separate file)

Acknowledgments should appear at the end of the manuscript, preceding the References section. This section is intended to recognize individuals, institutions, or organizations that contributed to the research or the preparation of the manuscript but do not meet the criteria for authorship. Examples include technical support, administrative assistance, or critical feedback, or financial support.

Conflicts of Interest (required) (Separate file)

Authors are required to declare any financial, personal, institutional, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the work reported in the manuscript. Each declared interest should be accompanied by a brief explanation of its potential relevance. If no conflicts of interest exist, authors must explicitly state this. The submitting author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have disclosed any potential conflicts of interest.

Funding Statement (required) (Separate file)

Authors must provide a Funding Statement in every manuscript. All sources of financial support should be fully disclosed, including the name of the funding body or sponsor(s) and, where applicable, the grant number. Authors should also clarify the role of the funding body, if any, in the study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and manuscript preparation.

If no external funding was received, authors must explicitly state: “This research received no external funding.”

Data Availability (required)

Authors are required to provide a clear statement regarding the availability of the data supporting their study’s findings. Data may be included within the article itself, provided as supplementary materials, or made accessible through an external repository. Authors should supply persistent identifiers (e.g., DOIs or repository links) where applicable. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all cited datasets are accurate, accessible, and appropriately documented to enable verification and reproducibility of the research.

Author Contribution (recommended) (Separate file)

Authors are strongly encouraged to provide a detailed description of each contributor’s role in the preparation of the manuscript. Contributions should be categorized, as applicable, under areas such as: conception, study design, definition of intellectual content, literature review, data collection, data analysis, statistical analysis, manuscript drafting, editing, and review. These details will be published with the article. One or more authors must also be identified as guarantors, assuming overall responsibility for the integrity of the work from inception to final publication.

In the case of a sole-authored manuscript, the Author Contribution statement should indicate that the single author assumes full responsibility for all aspects of the research and manuscript preparation.

Declaration of generative AI in scientific writing

Authors must declare the use of generative AI in scientific writing upon submission of the paper. The following guidance refers only to the writing process, and not to the use of AI tools to analyse and draw insights from data as part of the research process:

  • Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies should only be used in the writing process to improve the readability and language of the manuscript.
  • The technology must be applied with human oversight and control and authors should carefully review and edit the result, as AI can generate authoritative-sounding output that can be incorrect, incomplete or biased. Authors are ultimately responsible and accountable for the contents of the work.
  • Authors must not list or cite AI and AI-assisted technologies as an author or co-author on the manuscript since authorship implies responsibilities and tasks that can only be attributed to and performed by humans.

The use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in scientific writing must be declared by adding a statement at the end of the manuscript when the paper is first submitted. The statement will appear in the published work and should be placed in a new section before the references list. An example:

  • Title of new section: Declaration of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process.
  • Statement: During the preparation of this work the author(s) used [NAME TOOL / SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the published article.

The declaration does not apply to the use of basic tools, such as tools used to check grammar, spelling and references. If you have nothing to disclose, you do not need to add a statement.

Informed Consent Statement:

For all studies involving human participants, authors must confirm that informed consent was obtained from all participants (or their legal guardians, where applicable) prior to inclusion in the study. Please include one of the following statements in your manuscript:

“Informed consent was obtained from all subjects involved in the study.”

“Informed consent was waived by the [Name of Ethics Committee] due to [detailed justification].”

“Not applicable.” (for studies not involving human participants)

References

  • The references list must follow the APA 7th edition style.
  • All references cited in the manuscript should appear in the reference list and must be complete, accurate, and consistently formatted.
  • For manuscripts in Arabic:
    1. Arabic references must first be presented in their original Arabic script.
    2. The same Arabic references must then be transliterated into Roman script (using the ALA-LC system for Arabic transliteration) and merged alphabetically with any foreign (non-Arabic) references.

About the Author (Required) (Separate file)

Each submission must include a short biographical note for every author in both Arabic and English, placed at the end of the manuscript.

The note should include:

  • Full name of the author
  • Academic degrees (and the institutions where they were obtained)
  • Current institutional affiliation (department, faculty/college, university, city, country)
  • Academic rank
  • Research interests (3–5 keywords or short phrases)
  • ORCID iD (recommended)

Length: Each biography should not exceed 100 words in either language.

Appendix(es) (if applicable)

  • Appendix(es) may include supplementary material such as survey instruments, interview protocols, coding frameworks, transcripts, maps, images, archival sources, or extended data tables.
  • Each appendix should be clearly labeled (Appendix A, Appendix B, …) and referenced in the text.

Revised manuscripts

Authors must submit the revised version of their manuscripts within the period indicated in the editorial decision letter. Please note that revision does not guarantee acceptance, as amended submissions may be sent out for further evaluation.

When submitting a revised manuscript, authors are required to:

  1. Revised manuscript with changes highlighted
    • Use the Track Changes option in Microsoft Word (or underline/colored text) to show all modifications made since the original submission.
    • Upload this as a file titled “Revised Article with Changes Highlighted.”
  2. Response to reviewers
    • Provide a point-by-point reply to all reviewers’ and editors’ comments.
    • Clearly explain how each comment has been addressed.
    • If you disagree with a comment, justify your reasoning.
    • Upload this document as a file titled “Response to Reviewers.”
  3. Revised manuscript (clean copy)
Upload a clean copy of the revised manuscript, with no tracked changes, as the main “Manuscript” file.

Associated changes must be highlighted clearly to facilitate re-evaluation. Failure to provide a detailed response or to adequately address reviewers’ comments may delay the review process.
