Abstract English

This paper is entitled “Iran’s Motivations in Latin America”. Iran is grappling with international sanctions that have caused an economic crisis and political isolations. It is trying to overcome this by bridging its diplomatic and economic relations with Latin America, aiming to gain international political supports and ease international economic blockade. Thus, the Iranian-Latin relations has gained increased attention due to its complex motivations, including economic, political, strategic, and security aspects. This research aims to discuss the economic, political, security, strategic, and cultural reasons that led Iran to engage with Latin America. The study shall analyse the opinions of experts in this field and investigate events on the ground, aiming to uncover the true motivations behind Iran's approach to Latin America. The research concludes that the security motive, the economic reasons, and the strategic goals are crucial, while downplaying the significance of the political and cultural motivations.

الملخص العربي

تعاني إيران من الحصار الدولي الذي سبب لها أزمة اقتصادية ومشاكل سياسية، وتحاول تجاوز ذلك عن طريق بناء علاقاتها الدبلوماسية والاقتصادية مع دول أمريكا اللاتينية، وذلك بهدف توفير احتياجاتها من المواد الأساسيّة، وتسويق منتجاتها، والحصول على دعمها السياسي في المنظمات الدولية. ولذلك يحظى موضوع السياسة الإيرانيّة في أمريكا اللاتينيّة باهتمام متزايد نظرًا إلى دوافعه المعقدة التي تشمل جوانب اقتصاديّة وسياسيّة وإستراتيجيّة وأمنيّة. ومن هنا جاءت أهمية هذا البحث الذي يهدف إلى مناقشة الأسباب الاقتصادية والسياسية والأمنية والاستراتيجية والثقافية التي دفعت بإيران إلى قارة أمريكا اللاتينيّة، كما أن البحث يعمل على تحليل آراء المتخصصين في هذا الشأن ويربطها بالأحداث على أرض الواقع، وهو بذلك يهدف إلى الوصول إلى الدوافع الحقيقيّة التي حركت إيران تجاه أمريكا اللاتينيّة. ليصل بعدها البحث إلى نتيجة تؤكد أهمية الدافع الأمني المرتبط بنشر الجماعات المسلحة، والاقتصادي المتمثل بالتحايل على العقوبات الدولية، والاستراتيجي المتعلق بالحصول على اليورانيوم. وفي نفس الوقت تقلل نتيجة البحث من أهمية الدافع السياسي والثقافي.
