Abstract English

Introductory discourse illuminates and decodes a text, presenting a revealing picture before details unfold. This study examines the pragmatic dimension in the introductory discourse of modern literary letters (MLLs), focusing on how it reflects the addressee’s circumstances and status. It identifies discourse characteristics, communicative principles, and rhetorical functions, while clarifying its purposes and multiple roles. The findings show that the principles governing MLL introductions help inform theaddressee with precision, account for context, encourage mutual appreciation, and portray the writer with epithets matching their status. The discourse achieves several functions: communicative, fostering dialogue and interaction; critical, highlighting the origins of MLLs; advertising, stressing their impact on the recipient; and informative, introducing the author, clarifying the foreword–letter author relationship, and addressing challenges in compiling and writing introductions.

الملخص العربي

يقوم الخطاب المقدماتي بإضاءة النص، وفك شفراته،وتقديم صورة كاشفة عنه قبل الدخول إلى عالمه، ويتناول البحث بيان دور البعد التداولي في الخطاب المقدماتي للرسائل الأدبية الحديثة؛ بالتركيز على مدى مراعاته لأحوال المخاطبين ومقاماتهم، والتعرف على طبيعته، ومبادئه التواصلية، ونجاحه في تحقيق الوظيفة الإبلاغية، والكشف عن مقاصده مع الإشارة إلى وظائفه المتعددة. وخلص البحث إلى نتائج: أسهمت المبادئ التواصلية في مقدمات الرسائل الأدبية الحديثة في إفادة المخاطب قدر الحاجة مع الوضوح وعدم اللبس، ومراعاتها لمقتضى الحال، وبناء علاقة الاحترام والتقدير بين طرفي التخاطب، ووصف الكاتب بنعوت تليق بمقامه. قام الخطاب المقدماتيبعدة وظائف كالتواصلية القائمة على الحوار والتفاعل المثمر بين الكاتب والمتلقي، والوظيفة النقدية أبرزتتاريخ نشأة الرسائل، والإشارات النقدية الدقيقة، وركزت الوظيفة الإشهارية على أثرالرسائلفي المتلقي، وأشارت الوظيفة الإخبارية إلى التعريف بكتاب الرسائل، وعلاقة مقدم الرسائل بكاتبها، وأهم العقبات في جمع الرسائل والتقديم لها
