Abstract English
This research examines the role of the Danishmend family in Anatolia and northern Syria during the period (490–552 AH / 1097–1157 AD), and analyzes the nature of their political relations with the Crusader states, taking the principalities of Edessa and Antioch as a model for study, with the aim of highlighting their political and military positions in light of the transformations that the region witnessed after the First Crusade. The research focuses on the forms of interaction between the two sides, which varied between direct military conflict, temporary alliances, and political truces, according to the balance of power and regional circumstances, It also highlights the impact of the geographical location of the Danishmend principality in the middle of Anatolia in making them an active force in confronting the principality of Edessa, which was the most contacted of the Crusader states with them, as well as their fluctuating relationship with the principality of Antioch, The research concludes that the Danishmends’ policy towards the Crusader Emirates was characterized by political flexibility and instability, and was linked to regional power balances and their relations with neighboring Islamic powers. Internal weaknesses and conflict with the Seljuks contributed to the decline of their political role, leading to the fall of their state in the year (552 AH/ 1157 AD).
